WARREN-Catherine Mae Owens Hoke, age 80 passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, March 15, 2018 in her home. She had the support and comfort of her loving family by her side.
Catherine was born in February 1938 in Ilion, NY daughter of the late Margaret E. Geer Owens Quayle, David Rees Owens and George Adelbert Quayle. She was a graduate of Mohawk High School, class of 1956. She continued her education at Oneonta State Teachers College and received her Master of Science Degree in education from SUNY Oneonta in 1965. In May 1963 she was united in marriage to Gordon Hoke in the Mohawk Reformed Church Parsonage and made their home in the town of Warren. Cathy taught school in New Hartford, Ilion and Owen D. Young retiring in the mid-1970s to raise her family. She had a deep sense of community and was a member of the Jordanville Library Board, the Jordanville Historical Society and the Herkimer County Historical Society. She also had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Jordanville Federated Church.
Cathy loved spending time outdoors exercising with her dog, gardening or watching wildlife visit her backyard. She will be forever remembered as a kind, generous woman with a warm character and can do attitude. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and family.
Surviving are her devoted husband of 56 years, Gordon, a son, Eric Hoke of NC, and daughter, Heather-Marie Hoke and her husband David Bloomquist of Hong Kong, China, one sister, Davida Owens of Mohawk, three grandchildren, Nate, Jordan and Allison Hoke, eight nieces and nephews, DeAnna, Deb, Richard, Robert, Tam, Andrew, Melissa and Meghan, and several cousins.
Calling hours for Cathy will take place on Saturday March 24th from 2:00 until 4:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs. A funeral service will follow immediately after in the funeral home at 4:00 pm. Interment will be in May in Highland Rural Cemetery, Jordanville at a time to be announced.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Hospice & Palliative Care or the Jordanville Library; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
