MOHAWK-Catherine L. Lyon Mohawk Catherine Lucille Lyon Kate, age 47, of Shoemaker Road, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, April 26, 2008, in her home. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on September 21, 1960, in Herkimer, daughter of Dorothy Riesel Lyon Griffith and her husband, James, and the late George D. Lyon. A lifelong area resident, she was a graduate of West Canada Valley High School with the class of 1979. Kate was first employed by the P & C food store in Herkimer for twenty-three years until their closing. She loved her job and especially the people she worked with. She then went to work for Partners Trust Bank in New Hartford and worked in the Processing Center. Catherine has resided in Mohawk for the past five years with the love of her life, Donald Allen Jacquays. They shared a special relationship. Together they enjoyed the outdoors: fishing, camping, boating, golfing, snowmobiling and watching Sunrises and Sunsets. Kate had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Catholic life. She was a member of Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. In the winter months, she was an active member of the Skullets. To all who knew her, they will always remember a loving, caring and hopeful person. Her friends and family meant so much to her and they in return. She will be greatly missed. Along with her companion and soul mate, Don, she leaves behind four sisters, Debrah Murphy-Bill, Meta Elwood, Joanne Keblish-Steve, and Diane Abele-friend Keith Dillenbeck; four brothers, Robert Lyon-Sue, Donald Lyon, John Lyon-Diana Barhydt, and Joseph Lyon-Angela; her step-father, James Griffith; one step-brother, James-Cheryl Griffith; two step-sisters, Joyce Devereese-Craig and Judy Griffith; twenty two nieces and nephews, Jay-Shari Murphy, William Murphy, III, Mary Ann-Daniel Whitehurst, Elizabeth-Marc Gallagher, Rachel-Charles Shaver, Lisa-Lynn Farber, Eugene-Alicia Elwood, Kimberly Elwood, Robert-Beth Lyon, Jaclyn Lyon, Stephen, Jr., Catherine, Bradley Keblish, Matthew, Sara Abele, Josh, George, Tyler, Meta Lyon, Joseph, Jr., Jacob, Jenavieve Lyon; stepson, Ron Ward; and seventeen great-nieces and nephews. She also leaves Dons family: his two sons, Paul and Kyle Jacquays; his mother, Maryanne James Stekl; one sister, Linda and her husband, Steve Baylor and James; brothers, William Jacquays, Mike Jacquays-Sue Toiman, Sara, Samantha, Mark-Laurie Jacquays and James-Debbie Jacquays; and her canine dog, Trigger. Besides her father, George, who died on April 25, 1977, she was preceded in death by a brother, George Lyon, on October 7, 1978; a niece, Amanda Lyon, in 1982; and two nephews, Justin Lyon in 2003 and Todd Michael Keblish on July 7, 2006. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in St Francis deSales Church, Herkimer, with the Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer, to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Cancer Research, Make-a-Wish Foundation or the charity of your choice.
