Obituary

HERKIMER-Catherine Elizabeth Raymonda Betty age 89 of 104 North Washington formerly of Perry Street passed away on Thursday morning January 6, 2011 in Saint Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on February 21, 1921 in Mohawk, daughter of the late William and Mary Ann Babst Meade. A lifelong area resident she was raised in Mohawk where she graduated from Mohawk High School. On November 19, 1938 she was united in marriage with Douglas Savage in Herkimer. They shared a loving union of eighteen years until he died on June 6, 1957. She later married Edward F. Raymonda who preceded her in death on July 29, 1987. During her life Betty worked at various jobs throughout the area but most notably she was the familiar face that school children and adults alike knew as the school guard on the corner of Prospect Avenue and State Street in Herkimer. She retired in 1981. Mrs. Raymonda had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Church of Sts. Anthony and Joseph in Herkimer. She was also a member of the Polish Home Ladies Auxiliary. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening and taking good care of her many pets. Both cats and dogs had a natural affection to her and she did in return. She always enjoyed time spent with her many friends and family especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a lady with a warm gentle manner and an unforgettable smile. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are four sons, Douglas and his wife Josephine Savage of Little Falls, Edward Raymonda of Utica, David Raymonda and his companion Linda Thornton of Herkimer and Frederick Raymonda of Herkimer, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husbands Douglas and Edward she was predeceased by a son John Savage in 2007, one brother John Meade and two sisters, Alice Brooks and Helen Perry. Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer on Monday at 10:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am in the Church of Sts. Anthony and Joseph, Herkimer. The Reverend Thomas Lawless, Pastor will officiate. Interment in Calvary Cemetery will take place later this spring. Calling hours will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the Herkimer County Humane Society or the Alzheimer Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the third floor staff Neuro-Peds Unit of Saint Elizabeths Medical Center for the care and compassion shown to Betty During her hospital stay.
