HERKIMER-Cathleen Rose Darling, age 85, of West German Street, passed away on Friday morning, May 14, 2010, in MaryImogene BassettHospital, Cooperstown. She was born on February 25, 1925, in Oil City, PA, daughter of the late John and Mary Turk Siembida. Cathleen was raised in Oil Cityand was a graduate of Oil City Senior High School class of 1944. She was employed for several years by the Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp of Pittsburgh, PA. For fifteen years she was the general manager of Marcoin Management Services Inc. of Commack, LI. The family moved to Unadilla where she started her own business Record Keeping and Tax Service Inc. For over twenty-five years she specialized in helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses. Cathleen had a strong sense of community. While living on Long Island, she had served two terms as treasurer and two terms as vice president of the PTA- Elwood School District and organized the Girl Scouts of America, Huntington, Long Island Council. After moving to Unadilla, she continued to be active in community affairs, volunteering as accountant for Literacy Volunteer, Oneonta. She and her husband retired to Herkimer in 2004. To her many friends Cathleen will always be remembered as a caring, loving and helpful person. To her family she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband Richard of 65 years, a daughter, Joyce Patterson and her husband Charles of Herkimer, two cherished grandchildren, Jeremy Patterson of Herkimer and Jane OHarrow of Manhattan, three brothers, John Siembida of Phoenix, AZ, Kenneth Siembida of Olmsted Falls, OH, Donald Siembida of Reno, PA, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Charles, Thomas, Joseph, Edward, Richard and Robert Siembida. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 am in the AnnunciationChurch, Ilion. The Reverend Anthony Barrett, Pastor and assisted by Deacon James Bowers will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. There are no public calling hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Herkimer-Mohawk Food Pantry, 104 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY 13350.
