Obituary

HERKIMER-Charles C. Hardish age 90 of The Country Manor, formerly of Trenton Road, Utica passed away peacefully on Saturday evening August 25, 2007 in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion. He was born on June 13, 1917 in Johnstown, PA son of the late Alex and Anna Senko Hardish. As a youngster he with his family came to Herkimer where he was educated in the Steuben School and graduated from Herkimer High School. He furthered his education at Union College in Schenectady. In 1938 he was united in marriage with the former Anne Comstock in Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, Herkimer. They first made their home in Schenectady and in 1958 moved to Deerfield. After a loving and devoted union of fifty-three years Mrs. Hardish preceded him in death on April 17, 1991. For thirty-nine years Mr. Hardish worked for the General Electric Company in Schenectady, Syracuse and Utica. He retired in 1981 with the position of Unit Manager which he had held for twenty-five years. He had a strong belief in God and was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in East Herkimer. He was also a fifty year member of Newport Lodge # 455 Free an Accepted Masons. Charlie loved the outdoors and in his leisure time enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Hardish will always be remembered as a quite, down to earth man whose warmth and friendship flowed from his character. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren the years hold precious the cherished memories that they will keep in their hearts forever. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by one sister, Anne Bayson of Jordanville, two grandchildren, Chris Hardish and his wife Diane of Vernon, Sandra Porier and her husband Robert of Deerfield, three great-grandchildren, Matthew Porier, Shawn and Justin Hardish several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife Anne, he was preceded in death by his son Charles F. Hardish in November of 2006, a granddaughter, Rebecca Porier in July of 2006 four brothers, Harry, Michael, John and Frank Hardish, two sisters, Mary Mezick and Helen Nanoski. Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer will be on Wednesday day at 10:30 am and in Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church at 11:00 am. The Very Reverend James Jadick will officiate. Interment will follow in Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Parastas will be on Tuesday evening at 5:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
