RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Charles A. Briggs, Jr., age 75, formerly of Schuyler Lake, passed away on Sunday Morning March 18, 2007 in the Otsego Manor, Cooperstown. He had the peace and comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on August 15, 1931 in the Town of Carlisle a son of the late Charles A. and Thelma Comstock Briggs. Charles was raised in Carlisle and he was educated in Sharon Springs Schools. On October 25, 1952 he was united in marriage with the former Virginia McMann in Hynesville. They made their home in Edmeston until moving to Schuyler Lake in 1984.
A lifelong dairy farmer he started his career by working on the family farm in Carlisle and later for many other farms including the S.B.O. Dairy Farm in Edmeston where he retired in 1984.
Charles had green thumb and in his leisure time enjoyed gardening. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.
Surviving him are his loving wife of fifty-five years, Virginia, four sons; Richard Briggs of Westmoreland, David Briggs of Pensacola, FL, James and his wife Lori Briggs of West Burlington, Timothy and his wife Lisa Briggs of Richfield Springs, three daughters; Sandra Brathwaite of Queens, NY, Pamela Moore and her husband Ormand of Gilbertsville, Darlene MacDonald and her husband David of New Berlin; a brother Robert Briggs of Voorheesville; six grandchildren Stacy Briggs, Jared Briggs, Kymberli Briggs, Taylor MacDonald, Owen MacDonald, and Gabriella Briggs; two great-grandchildren Abagail Merwyn and Daniel Merwyn, Jr., along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Marion Fonda.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 1:00 pm in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, Schuyler Lake. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
