Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Charles F. Mang, 78, of State Route 28, passed away Thursday evening, Dec. 20, 2001, in his home. He was born April 22, 1923, in Richfield Springs, the son of the late Frank Sebastian and Esther Eaker Mang. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident, he was educated in Richfield Springs public schools. On Aug. 29, 1942, he married Elsie "Mae" Cardarelli in Saint Agnes Church, Utica. Mr. Mang had worked for the New York State Dairyman League, Richfield Springs, Remington Rand (UNIVAC) and Remington Arms, retiring as a machinist in 1983. He was a member of the Remington Arms 25 Year Club. Charles was an outdoorsman and was an avid deer hunter. His family was first and foremost with him. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by many, especially his family. Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years, Else "Mae"; two sons, Dennis Mang of Richfield Springs and Alan Mang of Warren; two daughters and their husbands, Jean and Leland Congdon of Little Falls and Barbara and Richard Strignano of Oneonta; a brother, Robert Mang of Richfield Springs; one sister, Betty VanCourt of Herkimer; nine grandchildren, Erika Mang of Bridgewater, Phyllis Mang, and Travis Mang, both of Richfield Springs, Troy and Dana Cool of Little Falls, and Todd, Christian, Brent and Ricky Strignano of Oneonta; two very special nieces, Beverly Holdridge of Little Falls and Betty Jean Phillips of South Columbia; one special nephew, Jesse VanCourt of Jordanville; and several other nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Harold Mang and one sister, Eleanor Dziadik. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the New Life Church and Ministry Center, 337 Protection Avenue, Herkimer. The Rev. Joseph Jansen, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Dolgeville Cemetery next spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Mohawk Valley Hunger Coalition or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the church. Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.
