MOHAWK - Charles A. Manning age 69 of Kingdom Road passed away on Wednesday October 12, 2005 in Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on April 6, 1936 in Willimantic, CT, son of the late Stephen and Vera Bushnell Manning. He was raised in Lebanon, CT and was a graduate of Lyman Memorial High School. He furthered his education at the University of Connecticut where he received a degree in agriculture. In 1958 he joined the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1964. On August 31, 1958 he married Barbara Bender in Lebanon, CT. Mr. Manning worked on a dairy farm in Connecticut until 1978 when he and his wife attained their lifelong goal by purchasing a dairy farm in Jordanville. He had worked the farm for twenty-seven years and in more recent years partnering with his son Jerry in its everyday operations.
Mr. Manning had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Lutheran life. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer and had served on the Church Council.
Charles had a true sense of community, he was a mentor of the Zone Youth Center in Richfield Springs, he at one time coached Little League Baseball, He was a former member of the Lyman Memorial Board of Education in Lebanon, CT and the Town of Warren Planning Board.
Nothing can detract from the joy that everyone shared in knowing him. He was a strong willed man who cherished his home and family. The precious memories of the poems that he would write will live on in the lives of his children and grandchildren forever. He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.
Surviving are his loving wife of forty-seven years Barbara, six children, Jacqueline and her husband John Hinckley of Richfield Springs, Jeffrey A. Manning and his wife Cynthia of Rome, Gerald Jerry Manning and his wife Amy of Jordanville, Gary C. Manning and his wife Susan of Herkimer, Glenn H. Manning of Herkimer, Joanne Belcourt and her husband Richard of Charlotte, NC, three brothers, Stephen Kibbe Manning and his wife Sherry of Clark Summit, PA, Ernest Manning and his wife Mary of Lebanon, CT, Michael Manning of East Hartford, CT, three sisters, Bernice Bowers of Coppers Cove, TX, Geraldine McCaw and her husband James of Lebanon, CT, Joyce Malainey and her husband Donald of Mansfield, OH, fourteen grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will take place on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer with Pastor Ann Zimmerman officiating. Interment service will be held on Monday at 2:00pm in the New Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, CT. The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 until 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made with donations to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 443 Henry Street, Herkimer, NY 13350. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
