RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Dr. Charles F. Schoenlein, 84, of Richfield Springs, passed away on December 15, 2013.
Dr. Schoenlein was born in Forest Hills on March 19, 1929. His upbringing encouraged a love of music and an active, involved life-style. He was educated at Queens University and then graduated from Columbia University with a degree in dentistry in 1954. Dr. Schoenlein met his wife Lois Putney of Lisbon, in New York City. They were married on August 31, 1957 then moved to Richfield Springs where heopenedhis dentistry practice He retired in 1992
During his many years in Richfield Springs Dr. Schoenlein became deeply involved in the community. He was an active participant in the affairs of the First United Methodist Church on local, state, and national levels. He was also an active member of the community with many civic affiliations including President of the Richfield Springs Central School Board of Education, Chairman of the board of Folts Home in Herkimer, and President of the Richfield Springs Rotary Club, as well as serving on the Library Board and Zoning Commission. Dr. Schoenlein was elected to the Board of Trustees for Syracuse University in 1974 where he served until 1985. Dr. Schoenlein enjoyed travel, the scenery of his lakefront home, gardening, and being a husband, father, and grandfather.
Dr. Schoenlein is survived by wife, Lois, son, Charles III of Richfield Springs, daughter Carol Gravelding and her husband, Mark, of Cazenovia with granddaughter and grandson, Hannah and Jacob Gravelding, as well as many other dear family and friends. Dr. Schoenlein is preceded in death by his son Dr. Eric P. Schoenlein of Utica.
Memorial services will be held at the Church of Christ Uniting in Richfield Springs on Saturday December 21, 2013 at 11:00 am. A reception will be held at the church following the service. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Church of Christ Uniting in Richfield Springs.Envelopes will be available at the church.
