RICHFIELD SPRINGS Charles A. Sweet, 95, ofState Highway 20, died on Tuesday, July 18, 2000, in Bassett Healthcare Cooperstown.
He was born on the Madison Stock Farm, Town ofFrankfort, July 20, 1904, son of the late James Dorr and Edna Mae Russell Sweet. Alifelong area resident he was educated in Ilion schools. On November 18, 1944 he marriedCharlotte Louise McCoy in the First Presbyterian Manse, Ilion by Reverend Paul Wagner.They then moved to Richfield Springs where they have resided since. Charles enjoyed gunmaking and repairs since early childhood. For over 60 years he owned and operated CustomGunsmith Shops in Ilion, Mohawk and Richfield Springs, retiring in 1973. He was a memberof the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. He was an avid skeet shooter,belonging to the Fish and Game Clubs in Richfield Springs, Ilion, Clinton, BurlingtonFlats and Cooperstown.
Surviving besides his loving wife of 55 years Charlotte,are a son-in-law; Donald J. Morgan, a grandson, Donald Morgan both of Newport; one nieceJanice Harter of Herkimer; a nephew, Kenneth Harter, of California. He was preceded indeath by his daughter Charlene Morgan on July 8, 1999 and sister; Doris Harter.
Funeral service will be on Friday 1:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 WestJames Street, Richfield Springs, with the Reverend John Young, officiating. Interment willfollow in Burlington Flats Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
