Obituary

HERKIMER-Chester Charles Szeflinski Chet age 34 of North Bellinger Street passed away unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon December 18, 2010 as a result of an accident on the family farm in the town of Richfield. He was born on June 23, 1976 in Herkimer, son of Paul J. and Anna Sarafin Szeflinski. Chet was raised in Richfield and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. He furthered his education at SUNY Cortland and Herkimer County Community College. In March of 2003, he met the love of his life, Cheryl Stack. They have made their home in Herkimer since that time. Chet worked as a self employed contractor as well as working on the family farm in Richfield Springs. He was a parishioner of Saint Joseph the Worker Church, Richfield Springs. In his leisure time he was an avid softball player. He played with the Utica Muni League, the Ilion Softball League, Twelve North League and many other area softball tournaments. To all who knew him he will always be remembered as a friendly, outgoing and thoughtful person. He was willing to do for others without looking for something in return. Chet was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family, especially his three cherished children. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his loving wife Cheryl Stack-Szeflinski, a son, Chet Bradley Szeflinski, two daughters, Morgan Grace Szeflinski and Brin Marie Szeflinski all of Herkimer, his parents Paul and Anna Szeflinski of Richfield, two brothers and their wives, Paul Martin and Heather Szeflinski of Hot Springs, AK, Michael and Doreen Szeflinski of Raritan, NJ, four sisters and their husbands, Suzanne and Bill Delude of Herkimer, Paula and Randy Moshier of Richfield, Stacey and Gene Mayne of Burlington Flats, Sheryl and Edward ODonoghue of Vienna, ME, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Thomas and Pamela Stack, his brother-in-law Thomas Stack and his wife Renee all of Little Falls, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 am in Saint Joseph the Worker Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Terence Healy, Pastor will officiate. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a trust fund is being established for the children. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
