RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Christopher C. Attridge, age 55, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, March 24, 2011, in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown.He was born on February 19, 1956, in Rochester, son of William and Betty Dertinger Attridge. He was raised in the Rochester area and was a graduate of West Irondequoit High School. On August 18, 1975, he entered the US Navy, where he served aboard the USS Thomas A. Edison Submarine stationed in Hawaii. He was honorably discharged on May 25, 1977.On October 8, 1988, he was united in marriage with the former Carol Bartl in Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer; the Reverend Peter Nabozny officiated. They made their home in Cedarville until 1995 when they moved to Richfield Springs.Mr. Attridge was employed for fifteen years as a mail handler with the US Postal Service in Utica, retiring in 2004. He had keen interest in photography and in recent years worked for Lifetouch Photography, taking class pictures of students in various area schools.Chris had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Catholic life. He was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Richfield Springs.He was also a talented musician. He played the guitar, bass guitar and nearly any other musical instrument you could think of. A devoted family man, he was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family, especially his cherished children. He will be sorely missed.Surviving besides his loving wife of twenty-two years, Carol, are two sons, Christopher M. Attridge and Bryan Attridge, both of Richfield Springs; two daughters, Allison Nicponski, of Blue Springs, MD, and Julie Attridge, of Richfield Springs; his parents, William Attridge, of Cape Coral, FL, and Betty Merrill, of Rochester; two sisters and their husbands, Jodi and Douglas Downs, of Keene Valley, and Amy and Joseph Gadway, of Piercefield; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Marc Samuels.Funeral from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Terence Healy, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will be later this spring in St. Josephs Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
