HERKIMER-Clara M. Snyder, age 92, of 105 Protection Avenue, passed away peacefully on Friday morning August 16, 2013, in Valley Health Services, Inc., Herkimer.
She was born on March 2, 1921, in Huntington, Quebec, Canada, daughter of the late Oliver and Betsy Hart Hurteau. She came to this country when she was six years old. A lifelong area resident, she was raised and educated in Saint Francis deSales Regional Catholic School and Herkimer public schools. On April 4, 1941, she was united in marriage with Orville E. Snyder in Ilion. They shared a loving and devoted union of forty-seven years until Mr. Snyder preceded her in death on April 10, 1988.
After Clara was married she lived in Ilion and later in Richfield Springs. In 1993 she sold her home in Richfield Springs and moved to Herkimer where she has resided since.
Mrs. Snyder had a strong faith in God and was a member of Saints Anthony and Joseph Catholic Church. At one time she was also a member of the Richfield Springs Senior Citizens Group.
To all who knew Clara she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was always there for them. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her son, Walter L. Snyder of Liverpool, four grandchildren, Scott, Amanda, Christian and Ryan, her daughter-in-law Barbara Snyder of Marsellus, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Orville, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stacey Snyder, three brothers, Emil, Ernest and Roy Hurteau.
Calling hours for Mrs. Snyder will be on Thursday morning from 8:30 until 9:30 am in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 am in Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer with the Very Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Center Cemetery, Springfield Center.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Saint Judes Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
