Obituary

EAST HERKIMER - Clarence P. Bolen, 75, of Pine Grove Road, entered into eternal rest Sunday evening, July 4, 2004, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. He was born Aug. 20, 1928, in Sophie, W.Va., son of the late Oakree and Bernice Hall Bolen. Clarence was raised and educated in East Herkimer. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served with the Seabees in both Korea and Vietnam. He was honorably discharged after 22 years of dedicated service. On Dec. 22, 1947, he married the former Doris Latovsky in San Diego, Calif. Theirs was a loving and devoted union of 56 years until her passing July 14, 2003. Mr. Bolen, with his wife and family, moved back to East Herkimer in 1956, coming here from Detroit. For 17 years he worked as a machinist for the Remington Arms Co., Ilion, retiring in 1986.Clarence enjoyed the outdoors and was a member of the East Herkimer Fish and Game Club. In his leisure time, he loved to ride his motorcycle. This pleasure he also shared with his wife, Doris, as they took many trips together. He also kept an active interest in various veterans groups. He was a member of the East Herkimer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6531, the Crowley Barnum American Legion Post 25, Mohawk, and a life member of Navy Seabees Veterans of America in Syracuse.All who knew Clarence will remember his warm smile and quiet manner. He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.He is survived by two sons and their wives, Stephen C. and Rosemarie Bolen of Collins, Allen O. and Patricia Bolen of East Herkimer; one brother, Allen Bolen of Austin, Texas; a sister, Betty Richer of East Herkimer; four grandchildren, David Bolen of Brockport, Matthew Bolen of Collins and Allen and Daniel Bolen of East Herkimer; one great-granddaughter, ShyAnne Bolen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer, to receive relatives and friends on Friday evening from 7-9 p.m.Funeral and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.Expressions of sympathy may be made to the America Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.Members of East Herkimer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6531 and Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post 25, Mohawk, are asked to meet at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. on Friday for ritualistic services
