HERKIMER-Clarence C. Guyer age 83, passed away on Friday April 4, 2013, in his home after an extendedillness. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on December 25, 1930 in Springfield, son of the late Merton C. and Marguerite F. Lowell Guyer. A lifelong area resident he was raised and educated in Mohawk. A US Marine Corps veteran he proudly served our country during the Korean War. At one time Clarence was married to the former Rose Kilts. For more than 40 years he worked as Tractor Trailer Driver and Heavy Equipment Operator for Don Reile Salvage Company in Herkimer. Mr. Guyer retired in 1997.
Clarence was a member of the Polish Community Club. To all who knew him he was a down to earth man. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point, yet you always felt his warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.
Surviving him are his devoted companion of forty years Geraldine Garlock, one son Raymond Guyer and his wife Ava of Springfield Center, two daughters, Linda Guyer, Brenda Hurteau and her husband James of all of Frankfort, two step-sons, Martin Austin of Norway, Robert Garlock Jr. of Mohawk, four step-daughters, Roberta Hall of Oppenheim-Euphrata, Barbara Guyer and her husband John of Mohawk, Carol Begley and her husband Edward of Vero Beach, FL, Crystal Hurteau and her husband Terry of Mohawk, two brothers, David Guyer of Norway, Loren Guyer and his wife Sue of Ilion, two sisters, Marguerite Thompson of Mohawk, Janet Wiegand and her husband Gary of Schuyler, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son, Clarence C. Guyer Jr. and daughter-in-law Sheila Guyer, four brothers, Kenneth, Merton, Donald and John Guyer, a sister, Beatrice Herringshaw.
Calling hours for Mr. Guyer will be on Tuesday from 2:00 until 4:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc. 115 Court Street; Herkimer. A funeral service will follow immediately after at 4:00 pm with the Reverend Janet Gleason, pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place later this spring in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Hospice & Palliative Care or the Clarence and Sheila Guyer Memorial Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
