HERKIMER Clarence E. Rivenburg, age 82, of Main Road, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning December 13, 2012, in Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion.
Clarence was born on September 22, 1930 in Herkimer a son of the late Clarence and Sylvia Fellows Rivenburg. He was a graduate of Herkimer High School, and a longtime resident of East Herkimer. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years aboard the U.S.S. Orion until 1954, and then for forty years he worked for Niagara Mohawk as a service man, then as a supervisor before retiring in 1994. On April 12, 1952 he married the former Natalie J. Brown in the Herkimer Reformed Church a union of 44 years until her passing on January 11, 1996. He later married Barbara Binney, in Mohawk, on October 12, 2001. She passed away on April 6, 2011.
At one time Clarence was a member of Herkimer Lodge No. 423 Free and Accepted Masons, Valley of Utica Scottish Rite and the Ziyara Shrine in Utica.
Surviving him are a son Terrence M. Rivenburg of East Herkimer; a stepson John Binney, Jr. and his wife Susan of Mohawk; two step daughters Sally Szymanski and her husband Chet of Little Falls, Jacqueline Rathbun and her husband Timothy of Mohawk; three grandchildren Karleigh Olney and her husband Mike, Miranda Rathbun, and Tim Rathbun Jr.; two great-grandchildren Jadyn Rathbun and Mike Olney II; a brother John Rivenburg and his wife Gail of Little Falls, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents and wives Natalie and Barbara he was preceded in death by a son Russell Rivenburg and three sisters Ruth Engells, Shirley Iredell, and Nora Rivenburg.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday December 20th at 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc. 115 Court Street, Herkimer with the Reverend Janet Gleason officiating. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm.
