Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Clarice "Clara" Barrett age 77 formerly of Circle Drive, Bridgewater and since 2011 the Harding Nursing Home, Waterville, passed away on Tuesday morning November 11, 2014 in Faxton-St. Luke's Medical Center, New Hartford. She had her loving family at her side. She was born on November 19, 1936 in Oneonta, daughter of the late Elmer and Eunice Squires Mead. Clara was raised and educated in Oneonta. On March 4 1960 she married Homer M. Barrett in Oneonta. The shared a loving and devoted union of seventeen years until his passing on July 21, 1977. For six years Clara worked as a waitress at the White House Berries Inn in Bridgewater. She retired in 1992. Mrs. Barrett had a strong faith in God and was a member of Faith Chapel in Bridgewater. In her leisure time she enjoyed drinking coffee and playing cards with her many friends. To all who knew her she had a great sense of humor and was quite the jokester. To her family she was a kind, caring and warm individual who was especially fond of her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she will be greatly missed. Surviving are two sons and their wives, Douglas and Diane Barrett, Steven and Heather Barrett all of Bridgewater, two daughters, Barbara Nelson of Waterville, Norma Stevens and her husband Carl of Bridgewater, twenty-one grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Homer she was preceded in death by a son, Jessie VanBuren, a daughter Debbie, one brother, Elmer Mead and one sister, Bernadette Mead. Calling hours for Mrs. Barrett will be on Friday from 4:00 until 6:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs. A funeral service will follow at the conclusion of the visiting hours at 6:00 pm. Interment in Highland Rural Cemetery, Jordanville will be at a later time convenient to the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
