HERKIMER - Clayton Ward Pedrick, 67, of Highland Avenue, passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 28, 2002, in Bassett Healthcare, with his loving family at his bedside.
He was born May 15, 1935, in Johnstown, son of the late Clayton and Margaret Beck Pedrick. Clayton was raised in the Johnstown-Caroga Lake area and was educated there. During the Korean conflict he served with the U.S. Navy. On Aug. 20, 1955, he married the former Marcia Rae Robinson in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. For 32 years he worked for the village of Herkimer, first as a heavy equipment operator for the street department. In later years he was appointed street foreman of the recreation department. He retired in December of 1990. He was a 32-year retired veteran of the paid and call Herkimer Fire Department. For many years he volunteered his time assisting with charitable functions for the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department. He was involved in scouting as a Weblow den leader for Pack 68. Clayton was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family members, especially his 19 grandchildren. He will always be remembered as a caring and helpful person. After his retirement he loved to spend his time with his beloved family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and watching motor sports. You could always find him giving a helping hand to all of his close and special friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Marcia; his cherished family, Clayton Dennis "Duke" Pedrick and his children, Clayton and Jennifer of East Herkimer, Raymond Thomas Pedrick and his wife Lora and their children, Katrina and Heather of East Herkimer; Brenda Lee Pedrick who predeceased him Dec. 15, 1981; Timothy John Pedrick, his wife Joyce and their children, Felicia, Anita, Cassie and Larissa of Mohawk; Margaret Manzo, her husband Steve and their children, Brianna and Sara of North Carolina; Catherine Wadin, her husband Mike and their children, Cherie, Shelbi and Braiden of Oppenheim, Kimberly Harrod, her husband Brian and their children, Shana and Reese of East Herkimer, Kristie Pedrick and her daughter Chelsie of Oppenheim; a sister, Nita Bell of Sprakers; a very close uncle, Douglas Pedrick of Rockwood; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins,
As a tribute to his dedicated years working with the village park recreation, a memorial service will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. in Myers Park Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family has requested that floral tributes be omitted. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of choice.
