Obituary

MOHAWK - Cora B. Edick Granny, age 90, of East Main Street, formerly of Ilion passed away on Thursday afternoon December 6, 2007 in Folts Homes, Herkimer. She had the comfort of her loving family by her side. She was born on November 15, 1917 in East Herkimer, daughter of the late Charles and Mary Ann Simpson Merrill. A lifelong area resident she was educated in West Canada Valley Central Schools. Cora was predeceased in death by both of her two husbands, first Earl Brown and later Willis Edick in 1962. At one time she had worked for Sperry Rand in Ilion. She later worked as a housekeeper at Herkimer Hospital retiring in 1976. She had a strong belief in God and had attended the West Schuyler United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Ilion Moose Club. In her leisure time she found great pleasure in playing Bingo. To her family she was always there for them in both good times and bad. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her warm smile and caring manner will be greatly missed by all. Surviving are three daughters, Eleanor Dutcher of Mohawk, Jessie Doxtater Juby and her husband Charles of Ilion, Carrie Overacker of Mohawk, a foster daughter, Penny Nelon and her husband Bud, of Hurricane, West Virginia, nine grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, several great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves a dear friend, Cherry Tucker of Mohawk. Besides her parents and husbands Earl and Willis she was predeceased by one son Earl Brown and a grandson, Eugene Brown both in 1997. Funeral service will be on Monday at 1:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Robert Lindsay, Pastor of the West Schuyler United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment in Mohawk Cemetery will take place at a later time convenient to the family. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday two hours prior to the funeral service (11:00 am until 1:00 pm). Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Ilion Fire Department or the Mohawk Homestead. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. A special thank you to the first floor staff of Folts Home for the care given during Coras illness and grateful appreciation to the Mohawk Homestead staff and administration for their care and compassion while she resided there.
