RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Harry D. Murdock age 70 of Monticello Street passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning December 2, 2005 in Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
He was born on November 8, 1935 in West Exeter, son of the late Harold and Ethel Bond Murdock.A lifelong area resident he was raised in West Exeter and was a graduate of West Winfield High School.An honorably discharged veteran he served as an MP with the US Army during the Korean War.
On December 29, 1962 he was united in marriage with Donna J. Hannahs in Saint Johns Episcopal Church in Richfield Springs. For forty-three years Mr. Murdock and his wife have made their home in Richfield Springs.
Harry was employed by the Remington Arms Company in Ilion, retiring in 1993 as a Foreman after twenty-eight and a half years of faithful service.
He had a strong sense of community. He had served as Cub Scout Master for the Richfield Springs Cub Scout Pack, was a member of the Hugick, Purcell and Shepard American Legion Post # 616 Richfield Springs and the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Harry will be missed by his many friend and family especially his two cherished grandchildren.
Surviving besides his loving wife of forty-two years Donna are three sons Harry Murdock III Skip of Richfield Springs, Jerry Scott Murdock and his wife Maryam of Great Neck, LI, Scott Alan Murdock of Liverpool, one daughter, Nicole and her husband Robert Waid of Richfield Springs, a sister, Judy and her husband Earl McCorduck of West Exeter, two grandchildren, Bailey and Jackson Waid of Richfield Springs, several nieces, nephews and cousins along with his six feline companions. Beside his parents one brother, Richard Murdock, two sisters Joan Carney and Marilyn Foster, his mother-in-law, Colista Hannahs and one brother-in-law, Robert Hannahs, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11:00 am in J. Seaton McGrath Funereal Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend John Young will officiate. Interment in West Exeter Cemetery will take place in the spring of 2006.The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Susquehanna ASPCA. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Members of Hugick, Purcell and Shepard American Legion Post # 616 are asked to meet at the funeral home on Monday evening at 7:00 pm for ritualistic services.
