Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Daniel D. Skramko, 81, of Lake Street, formerly of Georgetown passed awayunexpectedly on Thursday morning October 1, 2009 in MaryImogene BassettHospital, Cooperstown. He was born on November 8, 1927 in Columbia Center, son of the late Alexander and Anna Maslanik Skramko. Daniel was raised in ColumbiaCenter and was educated in Richfield Springs Central School. An honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in World War II. On June 18, 1950 he was united in marriage with the former Julia Reynolds in Richfield Springs. They shared a loving and devoted union of 51 years until her passing in September 2001. In 1963 they moved to Georgetownwhere they owned and operated Pinnacle Hill Dairy Farm. During that time he served several years on the Board of Directors of the Oneida-Madison Dairy Co-Op. He retired from farming in 2008. Mr. Skramko had a strong sense of community. He had served as Fire Commissioner of the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Madison American Legion Post and Richfield Springs American Legion Post. Surviving are one son, Daniel R. Rick Skramko and his wife Julie of Georgetown; three daughters, Carol Malone of Decatur, IN, Sharon Kane and her husband Steve of Richfield Springs, Marcia Kelley and her husband Patrick of N. Syracuse; two sisters, Wanda Taylor and Mary Zawko; six grandchildren, Shari Crane and her husband Kerry, Steven Kane Jr., Shawn Kane and his wife Kristin, Robert Malone, Tara Malone and Megan Skramko; and four great grandchildren, Brandon Crane, Riley Crane, Jacob Garbera and Daniel Kane. Besides his wife Julia, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sheila Skramko, and siblings Steven Skramko, Michael Skramko, Charles Skramko, Nicholas Skramko, Peter John Skramko, and Sophie Kleban. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs. Nancy Brown of Saint Joseph the Worker West Winfield/Richfield Springs will officiate.Interment will follow in Saint Josephs Cemetery Richfield Springs.The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 4 until 7 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department, the Richfield Springs Veterans Club or the American Heart Assoc.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
