VAN HORNESVILLE - Darwin E. Bronner, age 79 of State Highway 80 passed away on December 19, 2008 in Bassett Heallthcare, Cooperstown.
Darwin was born on January 28, 1929 in Van Hornesville a son of the late Eugene M. and Hazel Keller Bronner. A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Van Hornesville High School with the Class of 1946. On August 3, 1951 he was united in marriage with Martha M. Hoke in the Fort Plain Lutheran Church Parsonage.
Mr. Bronner owned and operated Mar Dar Dairy Farm in Van Hornesville for many years where he retired from dairy farming in 1988, he was also the General Manager of the Van Hornesville Milk Producers Coop for forty - four years retiring in 1999. He had served as the Town Assessor for the Town of Stark from 1964 until 1978. Darwin served his community in many ways as a Fireman with the Van Hornesville Volunteer Fire Department until he achieved the level of Exempt status; he supported the Van Hornesville United Methodist Church, and umpired local softball games. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing softball.
He was a friend to many and will be surely missed.
Surviving him are his wife of fifty seven years Martha, two sons; Richard E. Bronner and his fianc Darlene French of Van Hornesville, Robert D. Bronner and his wife Bethany of Mohawk, two daughters Debra A. Bronner and DeAnna H. Bronner both of Van Hornesville, five grandchildren Kyleen, Janelle, Ryan, Andrea, and Melissa Bronner and a brother-in-law Gordon Hoke and his wife Cathy of Richfield Springs. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters; Beatrice M. Smith, Mary E. Taylor and Madeline Flynn.
Funeral service for Mr. Bronner will take place on Saturday May 30th at 2:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, the Reverend Theresa Gresheck and Reverend Kenneth Dingman to officiate. Calling hours will from 12:00 until 2:00 pm prior to the service.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the VanHornesville Volunteer Fire Department or American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
