Obituary

MOHAWK-David E. Congdon Jr. age 53 passed away on Saturday evening, July 12, 2014 in Little Falls Hospital. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side. He was born on March28, 1961 in Little Falls, son of Alyce Edick Congdon and the late David E. Congdon Sr. A lifelong area resident was raised in Mohawk and was a graduate of Owen D. Young High School. David was an honorably discharged US Navy veteran. He enlisted in 1980, had served in Lebanon and was discharged in 1984 attaining the rank of Machinist Mate Second Class. On January 21, 1989 he was united in marriage with the former Karen Lynn Boardman in East Herkimer. For 27 years Mr. Congdon has been employed as a Maintance Mechanic at the Herkimer County BOCES complex in East Herkimer. Dave was a member of the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post # 25 in Mohawk. He had a strong love for the outdoors and, in his leisure time enjoyed camping, bonfires, four wheeling and an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills. To all who knew him, he was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family, especially his cherished daughters and grandson. He will be sorely missed. Surviving besides his devoted wife of twenty-five years, Karen are four daughters, Adrienne Congdon and her fianc' Storm Kovac of Herkimer, Patience Herringshaw and her husband Brian Jr. "Bud" of Little Falls, Savannah Congdon and Autumn Congdon both of Mohawk, his mother Alyce Congdon of Ilion, two brothers, William Congdon Sr. and his wife Christine of Mohawk, James Congdon of Ilion, two sisters and their husbands, Starlene and Richard Treusdell of Little Falls, Tracy and Michael Goodson Sr. of Herkimer, a grandson Storm Kovac II (who loved to go four wheeling with grandpa) of Herkimer, his mother in-law and father in-law, Rosemary and Francis Boardman of Herkimer, two sister in-laws, Lynn Miller of Herkimer, Holly Dust and George Khoury of New Port Richey, FL, four brother in-laws, Ryan Miller Sr. of Middleville, Scott Griffith and companion Brandee Turrell of Salisbury Center, Donald Dust of Schuyler, Andrew Jasewicz Sr. and his wife Laureen of Herkimer, his Godson David Treusdell of Little Falls, several nieces, nephews and cousins and his few special camping/garage buddies at "Bone Break Acres", Rodney (Renney) Tarbox, Bob Garlock and Don Rheinhardt. Besides his father he preceded in death by three sisters Robyn Jasewicz, Julie Congdon and Pamela Congdon. Calling hours for Mr. Congdon will be on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. Funeral service will be on Monday at 10:00 am in the funeral home with the Reverend Daniel Parisi officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the US Navy will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Hospice and Palliative Care, all the Staff at Bassett Medical Center and the Herkimer Cancer Center for their extraordinary care and compassion given to David as well as his many friends and family during his illness. Expressions of sympathy in David's memory may be made in donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Ronald McDonald House. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
