HERKIMER David Eugene Foster, age 63, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 1, 2017 in his home. David was born on July 26, 1953 in Herkimer, son of the late Donald and Norma Jean Smith Foster. A lifelong area resident he was educated in Herkimer and graduated from Herkimer County Community College with an AAS degree in Business Administration. On August 29, 1972 he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on August 27, 1976. He was stationed in Port Hueneme, CA and Diego Garcia among other places. At one time he was married to the former Patricia Wilke. They had three children. For 23 years he was employed by Remington Arms in Ilion. He retired in 2000. David enjoyed studying the weather and was one of WKTV Weather Watchers. Dave also had a strong love for politics. In his leisure time he found relaxation and pride in tending his gardens and the meticulous care of his home. He was a strong willed, resilient man who was always there for his family and friends. He will be remembered for his kindness, support and always willing to lend a helping hand while seeking nothing in return. He will be sadly missed. Surviving are his children, Amanda Foster of Herkimer, Jonathan Foster and his fianc Opel Letendre of Anchorage Alaska, Sarah Day and her husband Oscar of Mohawk and Ethan Foster of Herkimer, his confidant and devoted friend, Francis Grates of Herkimer, a granddaughter, Olivia Day of Mohawk, two brothers, Dennis Foster and his wife Maryann of Herkimer, Jason Foster of Grass Lake, Michigan, one sister Dianne Irving and her husband Jim of Aurora, Colorado, several, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins and lifelong Naval friend Roger Gasmann of California. He also leaves his canine buddy Kaysar. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday March 10th at 6:00 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4-6 p.m. (2 hours prior to the service) A gathering will follow at the Polish Home on Washington Street in Herkimer.
