TOWN OF WARREN-David Vincent Gardner Weegee, age 72, passed away on Wednesday morning September 6, 2017, in his home.
He was born on September 10, 1944 in Cooperstown, son of the late Alvin L. and Edith Hall Gardner. Weegee was raised in Warren and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. On August 1, 1965 he enlisted in the US Army and was honorably discharged on July 16, 1967 attaining the rank of Specialist 4th Class. At one time he was married to the former Susan Gravelding. She preceded him in death on June 13, 2013. Mr. Gardner worked in construction company as a heavy equipment operator for various construction companies. He retired in 2007. David was an active member of the American Legion Post # 616 in Richfield Springs. To all who knew him they will never forget a charismatic, happy man with a great sense of humor. He loved his family and they always came first. He could not be any prouder of them and who they are. He will be sadly missed.
He is survived by a daughter Amanda Stone and her husband Chad of Warren, four brothers, George Gardner and his wife Carrie, Robert Gardner all of Warren, Jim Gardner and his wife Marion of Mohawk, Jack Gardner of Cullen, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, infant child William Gardner, Charles Gardner, two sisters-in-law, Irene Gardner and Gladys Gardner.
Calling hours for Mr. Gardner will be on Sunday October 1st from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs. A graveside service with full military honors provided by the US Army Honor Guard and American Legion Post # 616 will follow at 2:00 pm in Springfield Center Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department or the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
