Obituary

SYRACUSE-David A. Keller, age 64, of Syracuse, formerly of Herkimer, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday May 7, 2014 in Upstate Medical Center. David was born December 25, 1949, the son of the late Donald C. and Jean (Bishton) Keller. He was educated in Herkimer schools and honorably served in the United States Army from 1970-1972. David was a Military Policeman while serving in Vietnam and was awarded the National Service Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Two Overseas Bars, and the Marksman medal for the h-16 rifle. David loved sports trivia and was an avid NY Yankees and NY Giants fan. He was a kind, intelligent, gentle soul whose dreams and hopes for a good life were sadly never realized as he struggled with many issues upon returning home from Vietnam. David is survived by his sister Deborah Kirby and husband James of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; his niece Megan Kirby, fianc Keith Rosebraugh, and their children Fallon, Harper, and Brennan of Agoura Hills, Calif.; and several cousins from the Bishton, Higby, Beran, and Greiner families. He was predeceased by his parents and his nephew Ryan Kirby, 24, of Thousand Oaks, Calif. who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident in 2012. Funeral services will be on Friday, June 20, 2014 in the Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer at 11:00am. Reverend Mark Andersen of the Herkimer Reformed Church officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive relatives and friends from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. A special thank you to his cousin, Rob Bishton and his wife Laurie for being at David's side while he traveled safely home where he is finally at peace and to cousin Jim Greiner for all his help with David's funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations in David's name to the Herkimer County Humane Society or to a Veteran's Service Organization of your choice. Please support our veterans.
