Obituary

LITTLE FALLS - David C. Matthie, age 44, of Mang Road, Little Falls, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2009, in his home after an extended illness. He was born on July 6, 1964, in Cortland, son of Carl F. and Carol F. Forbes Matthie. A lifelong area resident, he was a graduate of Mohawk High School, class of 1983, and had attended Mohawk Valley Community College. As a youngster David developed a strong love for the outdoors. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America where he proudly earned his Eagle Scout award. He had been a resident of Little Falls since 2005, coming from Schuyler. For six years he worked for Halstead Communications in Rome as an installer for DIRECTV. To all who knew Dave, they will remember him to be a caring and helpful young man. He had a God given gift that drew you to him and he was always there for anyone in their time need. A friend to many, he will be greatly missed. Besides his parents, Carl and Carol Matthie of Mohawk, he is survived by two brothers, Steven Matthie of Salisbury and Christopher Matthie and his wife Elizabeth of Chester, Va.; one sister, Susan Matthie of Mohawk; his maternal grandmother, Wilna Beckman of Mohawk; his aunts and uncles, Sandra and Gary Fauvelle of Ilion and Bruce and Nancy Forbes of Greenwood Village, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Michaela Matthie of Baumholder, Germany; nieces and nephews, Christopher Matthie of Baumholder, Germany, Kaitlyn and Andrew Matthie of Chester, Va., and Cayenne and Nichole Matthie of Mohawk; and several cousins. A memorial service will held on Saturday, March 7, at 3 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. The Reverend Patti Lawrence, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Herkimer, will officiate. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Saturday one hour prior to the service (2-3 p.m.). Interment will take place at a later date in Kings Daughters Cemetery, Potsdam. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the charity of your choice.
