Obituary

MIDDELVILLE-Dolores M. Veit Dee age 74 of Herkimer Street died on Saturday morning March 15, 2008 in her home after a long illness. She was born on July 7, 1933 in Queens, NY eldest daughter of the late August J. and Lidwina O. Mende Veit. Dee graduated from Oneonta State Teachers Collegeand taught home economics for her entire career at the Herkimer Junior High School. In her leisure time she loved to sew and was admired among her friends and family for her detailed hand-crafts, especially her quilts and doll house miniatures. She had a true sense of community and generously donated many of her hand-made quilts to the Cancer Center at BassettHospital as well volunteering at the food pantry in Newport. Dee loved spending summers at her cabin on Third Lakein Old Forge and enjoyed many fond memories of visits there by family and friends, including winter ski-ins! She enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours there flower gardening and watching wild life. She is survived by a brother, William E. Veit and his wife Mary Lou of Clifton Park, a sister, Catherine Stevens and her husband Thomas of Cape Neddick, ME, a sister-in-law, Antoinette Albano of Portland, OR, and her long-time friend, Anne Marvin of Middleville, she also leaves nine adoring nieces and nephews and their families; Kathy Veit of SanFrancisco, CA, Karen Scotti and her husband Thomas of Medfield, MA with their daughter, Anne; Sr. Constance Carolyn, LSP of Latham, Eric Veit and his wife Beverly of Annapolis, MD along with their children, Allison and Brendan, Adam Stevens with his wife Suzanne of York, ME along with their sons Gus and Noah, Zachery Stevens of New Haven, CT, Christian Stevens of Elliot, ME, Rebecca Veit of Brooklyn and Nicholas Veit of Philadelphia, PA. Besides her late of parents who had resided in Red Hook, NY, Dee was preceded in death by two brothers, August J. Veit of Saugerties and Bernard G. Veit of Gresham, OR. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in the Chapel of Our Lady of Hope Residence inLatham, NYon Friday April 11, 2008 at 4:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on the following day, Saturday April 12, 2008 at 3:00 pm. Dees family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends two hours prior to the memorial service from 1:00 until 3:00 pm. Interment will take place later this spring in the family plot at St Johns Cemetery in Queens. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Hager Cancer Centerof the Bassett Healthcare Regional Cancer Program. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
