Deselee Palmer's Obituary

HERKIMER-Deselee Palmer, age 84, formerly of Claxton Manor, passed away on Sunday September 24, 2006, in the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion. She was born on April 12, 1922, in East Herkimer, daughter of the late Joseph C. and Nina Wilson Wilcox. A lifelong area resident, she was raised and educated in Herkimer. On November 2, 1940 she was united marriage with Meade M. Palmer in the First Baptist Church Herkimer. A loving and devoted union of forty-one years Mr. Palmer passed away on June 20, 1982. They had lived in Brookfield until 1957 then moving to Herkimer. During her life she had worked for the Remington Rand Company in Ilion, The Vogue in Herkimer and in later years in the Gift Shop at the Indian Castle Thruway stop, retiring in 1983. She had a strong belief in God and was a member of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer. Deselees leisure time was spent making ceramics and crocheting. She took great pride in her crocheting abilities and had crocheted bed spreads for each of her grandchildren. A special gift that they will cherish forever along with the many happy memories of family gatherings where the aromas of her cooking and baking were so special. She will be deeply missed. Surviving are her three grandsons their wives and children, Lawrence Steenburg his wife Lisa and their children Sydney, Tyler and Chase, of Ilion, Jon Steenburg his wife Kim and their son Jonny of VanHornesville, Mark Steenburg his wife Mary Lourdes and their children Sarah and Shawn of Herkimer, a sister Hilda Glines of Herkimer, a son-in-law Howard Steenburg of Fort Plain many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friend Ruth Gorski of East Herkimer. Besides her parents and husband Meade she was preceded in death by her daughter Donna Steenburg in August of 2005 and several brothers and sisters. Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 12:00 noon in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Wrightson Tongue, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer will officiate. Interment will follow in Brookfield Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends two hours prior to the funeral service (10:00 until 12:00 noon). Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to First United Methodist Church Herkimer, Building Fund. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the third floor staff of Mohawk Valley Nursing Home for all the care and compassion shown to Deselee during her stay at the home.
