ILION-Diana Ruth Briggs, age 73, of Tulip Drive, passed away after a short illness on Thursdaymorning, September 25, 2013, in Faxton-Saint Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford. She had the support and comfort of her loving family at her side.
She was born on April 15, 1940, in Mohawk, daughter of the late John and Ruth Ottman Tinkler. A lifelong area resident, Diana was raised and educated in Mohawk. On August 14, 1987, she was united in marriage with Marvin L. Sonny Briggs in Little Falls. They made their home in Newport until 1995 when they moved to Ilion. Mrs. Briggs at one time worked for the Duofold Company and for a short time at Mohawk Data Sciences. She then started her own child care business which she operated for ten years retiring in 2005.
Diana had a strong belief in God and was of the Methodist faith. In her leisure time she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles; jig saw puzzles and computer games. Mrs. Briggs was also blessed with an artistic talent. She loved doing different crafts and going to craft shows but her real talent was home decorating and gave the home that she and Sonny shared a feeling of love, and friendship as only she could do.
To all who knew her, she a lady who liked to stay in the background, never looking for praise, even when it was deserved. She will be truly missed by her many friends and family.
Surviving are her devoted husband of twenty-six years, Sonny, three sons, Steve Korniat and his wife Teresa of Johnstown, Shane Korniat and his wife Barbara, Jason Korniat and his wife Kristine all of East Herkimer, a step-son, Steven Briggs and his wife Deborah of Mohawk, a step-daughter Cynthia Vespi and her husband Guy of Little Falls, one brother Jack Tinkler and his wife Judy of Ilion, a sister, Joan Schorer and her husband Ron of Mohawk, seven grandchildren, Ethan and Ryder Korniat, Courtney, Erica, and Alexandra Briggs, Jason and Lucas Vespi. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Duane Tinkler and a sister Bonnie Tinkler.
A graveside service for Mrs. Briggs will be held on Wednesday at 3:00 pm in Middleville Cemetery. The Reverend Janet Gleason, pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/ Little Falls will officiate.
