It is with deep sadness that our family shares the passing of Diana J. Kubecka, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother at the age of 82. Diana passed at Wynn hospital on March 26, 2025, with her loving family at her side. Diana lived most of her life in Mohawk and for the past 4 years was a resident of Valley Health Services.
Diana was born in Cold Spring, New York, on January 21, 1943, to Robert Wales Brien and Anna Burns Brien. She was the youngest of the Brien family and, in 1944, as a wee babe, moved to Mohawk. Diana will be remembered for her loving nature, her vibrant spirit and her caring soul. She dedicated her life to her family, always there with a loving embrace, a shoulder to cry on and a cookie or piece of pie.
Diana attended Mohawk school and met her beloved husband, Melvin, in high school. They were married on August 18, 1962, and shared a happy home for almost 63 years. Diana was a hard worker at home and on the family farm. She was a former Lady Elk of the Herkimer Elks Club. Diana worked at the Herkimer H&R Block part-time as a receptionist for many years. In 1984 she and Melvy took over the Country Cafe' where she did most of the cooking and baked her famous pies every night when returning home. When the business was sold, she loved to play cards with her girls and bowled in Ilion for many years with her friends.
Diana is survived by her loving husband, Melvin, her daughter Tammy Kubecka (Tom Hunt), son-in- law Bob Gross, grandchildren Anthony McGraw, Alyson Snell (Jeremy), Chad Liddon (Jenn), Curtis Rockwell (Victoria), Matthew Liddon (Zoe Rangel), Courtney Liddon (Taylor West), and Gianna Morrow, 7 great grandchildren, Malcolm, John, Jordyn, Emilia, Mykah, Teresa and Emi, sister Irene Brien, sister in-law Phyllis Brien, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marlene and Brandt Rostohar, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Betty and Tony Diana, brother-in-law Dick Kubecka, many cherished nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She also leaves behind her cherished friend and partner in mischief for over 63 years, Greta Uncur and Tammy's sister from another mother, Sharon Dunphy.
Diana was predeceased by her daughter Teresa Pagano, grandson Micah, her parents, in-laws Anne and John Kubecka, sister and brother-in-law Peggy and Bill Loomis, brother Robert Brien, brother Donald Brien, and her beloved Valentine's Day Kitty Bootsie.
Diana's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Brenda Edick for the caring of Diana while she was home and to the staff at Valley Health Services for their compassionate care of Diana for the past 4 years.
