SCHUYLER-Dolores Laurie King Swiger, age 86, passed away on Thursday afternoon September 15, 2016 in Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side.
Dolores was born on August 4, 1930 in Herkimer, daughter of the late William and Evelyn M. Davis King. A lifelong area resident she was raised in Herkimer and graduated from Herkimer High School with the Class of 1948.
She was a telephone operator with New York Telephone in Herkimer and retired in 1967, after 19 years of dedicated service to begin raising her family. On May 4, 1963 she was united in marriage to Lewis Swiger of Utica and shared a loving and devoted union of twenty years until his passing on August 16, 1983. Growing up, Mrs. Swiger was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer. She was a Majorette with the Little Falls Drum and Bugle Corp. She shared her brothers love for planes and learned to fly at Highland Airport in the 1950s. She became a full time wife and mother who loved her family. She also had many outside activities. She loved gardening, sewing, crafting, traveling, being at camp on Third Lake and was a proud member of the D.A.R and The Red Hat Society. Laurie will be truly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving her are three daughters, Kristin Salamone and her spouse Joe of Schuyler, Stacy Swiger and her spouse Sandy of Raleigh, NC, Nadine Swiger-Ortis and her spouse Shawn of Ilion, three grandchildren, Christopher, Julia and Jeffrey Salamone of Schuyler, a sister, Marijane King Hart and her spouse Lawrence of Nashville, TN, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Lewis, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Richard and Theodore Ted King and one sister, Esther Lang.
Calling hours for Mrs. Swiger will be on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. Funeral service will take place on Monday at 11:00 am in the funeral home. The Reverend Jill Stellman, Rector of Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
