Obituary

HERKIMER -Donald Marvin Bowler age 74 of North Main Street, Herkimer, passed away on Monday evening November 26, 2007 in Mary ImogeneBassett Hospital,Cooperstown. He was born on August 6, 1933 in Canajoharie, son of the late Marvin E. and Esther Alkinburg Bowler. Donald was raised in Canajoharie and was a graduate of Canajoharie High School. A US Air Force veteran, he proudly served his country during the Korean War. For his service he was awarded the Occupation of Germany Medal. He was honorably discharged on October 17, 1953. On October 11, 1961 he was united in marriage with the former Betty Powler in Atlanta, GA. They have made their home in Herkimer since 1962, coming from Atlanta. For ten years Mr. Bowler worked as a assembler at the Snyder Bicycle Company in Little Falls. He later went to work for the Herkimer County Highway Department where he was an equipment operator. He retired in 1996 after twenty-five years of dedicated service. Donald was a quiet man who found great joy in the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and also spent many hours watching birds and wildlife. To those who knew him, they will tell you that any conversation with him was frank and to the point but you would always sense a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his loving wife of forty-six years Betty, one brother, Arthur E. and his wife Kathryn Bowler of St. Augustine, FL., several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters. Funeral service will be on Friday at 11:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. The Reverend Patti Lawrence, Pastor of the First Baptist Church Herkimer will officiate. Interment with military honors accorded by the US Air Force will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends one hour to the funeral service (10:00 to 11:00 am).
