Obituary

Donald E. Gilbert MIDDLEVILLE - Donald E. Gilbert, 64, of Main Street, passed away Monday, Aug. 22, 2005. He was born Jan. 29, 1941, in Oneida, the son of the late Donald F. and Mildred Murfit Gilbert. He was educated in local schools. An honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran, he proudly served his country in Europe from 1962 until 1966. He had attained the rank of sergeant. On April 5, 1965, he married the former Colette Limbach in France.Don was a machinist by trade. He had worked for Chicago Pneumatic for many years and was last employed at E.J. Willis Co. until 1993. He was of the Methodist faith and a longtime member of the American Legion Post 1524, Newport.Don was an outdoorsman at heart who enjoyed years of travel and living in many parts of the country.Surviving are one son, Donald, of Ilion; two daughters, Nathalie Gilbert of Newport and Veronique Stormes and her husband Mark of Herkimer; four brothers and their wives, Leonard and Lois Gilbert of Mohawk, Franklin and Gwen Gilbert of Fort McCoy, Fla., William and Connie Gilbert of Frankfort and Thomas and Diane Gilbert of West Winfield; five sisters, Virginia Hardman of Grand Blanc, Mich., Joyce Shafer of Brick, N.J., Margaret Buell and her husband Ronald of Palm Bay, Fla., Bonnie Bowen and her husband Howard, Gayle Irene Gilbert, all of Burlington Flats; three granddaughters, Jennifer Gilbert of Ilion, Dominique and Danielle Stormes of Herkimer; many nieces, nephews and cousins.Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael; and two brothers-in-law, Richard Hardman and Ken Shafer.The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, on Thursday from 10 a.m. until noon.Funeral service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in the West Exeter United Methodist Church. Interment with military honors will follow in Exeter Center Cemetery.Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Exeter Center Cemetery Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
