Obituary

ILION-Donald Frederick Hurteau, age 68, of Reidy Drive, went to be home with his Lord and Savior on Sunday afternoon June 23, 2013, in his home. He had the peace and comfort of hisloving family at his side. He was born on June 23, 1945, in Herkimer, son of the late Emile J. and Elizabeth Mary Miller Hurteau. A lifelong area resident, he was raised and educated in Mohawk. On April 16, 1966, he was united in marriage with the former Elizabeth Elmer in the Ilion Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hurteau worked as a special machine setter in the wood department at the Remington Arms Company in Ilion. He retired in December of 1993 after twenty-five years of dedicated service. Don had a strong belief in God and was a member of Emmanuel Bible Church, Mohawk. In his leisure time he enjoyed carpentry, woodworking and working outdoors. To all who knew him he will always be remembered as a caring, sincere and faithful man. He found much satisfaction in doing for others while looking for nothing in return. He took great pride in being a good provider for his family. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and relatives. He is survived by his devoted wife of forty-seven years, Elizabeth, a son, Kevin Hurteau of Ilion, and his son Zachary Hurteau of Skowhegan, Maine, one daughter, Theresa Sorenson of Birmingham, AL, cherished grandchildren, John Mark, Blessing, Benjamin, Sarah, Zachary, Grace, Daniel and Caleb Sorenson, and their father Scott Sorenson of Birmingham, AL, a great-grandson, Braden Sorenson, a sister, Joan Drake of CA, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Tiffany Sorenson, five brothers, Oliver, Robert, Arthur, Charles and Ernest Hurteau and one sister, Janet Tyler. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am in the Emmanuel Bible Church, Mohawk with Pastor Gary Wilcox officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in the church to recieve relatives and friends at 10:30 (I/2 hour prior to the service) Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Emmanuel Bible Church, Mohawk. Envelopes will be available at the church service. The family would like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., for the care and compassion given to Donald and family during his illness. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., Herkimer.
