Obituary

ILION-Donald R. Krick age 78 of East River Street passed away on Friday morning April 21, 2006 after a long illness in Hospice and Palliative Care Siegenthaler Center, New Hartford. He was born on January 5, 1928 in Ilion son of the late Harold W. and Iva Mowers Krick. A lifelong area resident, he was a graduate of Frankfort High School. A veteran of World War II he proudly served with the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1947. On August 28, 1948 he was united in marriage with Doris Marie Lowell in the First United Methodist Church in Herkimer. A devoted union of forty-three years until her passing on March 29, 1992. For thirty years Mr. Krick worked as a machinist for the Herkimer Tool and Model Company, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Frankfort United Methodist Church, the Kuyohoora Rangers Muzzle Loaders, the Fort Herkimer Ham Radio Club and had operated his own Ham Radio for over fifty years. He had many interests that filled his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography and for the last twelve years camping at Trails End at Hinckley Lake. Dons down earth manor flowed from his character. Any conversation with him was frank and to the point. But you could sense a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be truly missed by his many friends and family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are his special companion of twelve years Marie Powell, two sons, David and his wife Sherry Krick of Ilion, Donald J. and his companion Olga Bosell of Utica, one daughter, Donna Krick and her companion Mel Waters of Utica, a brother, Richard and his wife Dorothy Krick of Dolgeville, one sister, Doris and her husband Carlton Brown of Frankfort, a brother-in-law, Frank Reina of Frankfort, a sister-in-law, Linda Krick of Murrells, SC, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife Doris he was preceded in death by a sister Muriel Reina and a brother Raymond Krick. Funeral service will be on Monday at 11:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Gerald Harris, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Hospice and Palliative Care Siegenthaler Center, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
