, Sr.DonaldMortensen, Sr.Van Hornesville - DonaldMortensen, Sr., 68, of Summit Hill Road, Van Hornesville, died unexpectedly onWednesday, April 26, 2000 in Bassett Healthcare Cooperstown.
He was born on July 14, 1931, in Hartford, CT, son of thelate Elmer and Dorothy Reardon Mortensen. He was raised and educated inBloomfield, CT. An honorably discharged US Army veteran he served during theKorean Conflict. On February 20, 1954 he married Jacquelyn Parsons in Hartford.They moved to Van Hornesville in 1970 coming here from Windsor, CT. In 1999 heretired after 23 years of driving a school bus for Owen D. Young Central SchoolSystem. Donald was an entrepreneur by heart who had the innate ability to see anold house or parcel of land in need of repair and turn it into a place of charmand grace. He would often say he enjoyed the challenge as much, if not more thanthe end result. He owned standard bred horses that raced at Vernon Downs andrecreational golf was a sport he most enjoyed.
Surviving besides his loving wife of 46 years Jacquelyn are 4sons and their wives, Donald and Linda Mortensen of Pattersonville, Niels andSuzanne Mortensen of Mohawk, Eric and Sandra Mortensen of Van Hornesville, Davidand Donna Mortensen of Richardson, TX; two brothers John Mortensen and his wifePhyllis of Windsor Locks, CT, Robert Mortensen of Tucson, AZ; one sister ShirleyBruyette of Suffield, CT; three granddaughters Erica, Brittany and MacKenzieMortensen; two step-grandchildren, Alyssa and Adam Mahoney, several nieces,nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother Elmer Mortensen, Jr.and a sister Phyllis Johnston.
Funeral service will be on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in J. SeatonMcGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. Interment willfollow in Van Hornesville Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeralhome to receive friends and neighbors on Sunday afternoon from 2-5 p.m.
Memorial donation may be made to the Springfield Ambulance Corp. Envelopeswill be available at the funeral home.
