Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Donald Richard Tremain, age 81, peacefully left his home to journey to Heaven, where no roads are needed, after battling heart disease for many years. He was born on August 20, 1935 in Salina, KS, son of the late Henry Earl and Jennie Mildred Benfield Tremain. He was raised in Wyandotte, MI and graduated high school with the class of 1953. From 1955 to 1963, he served first in the National Guard and then the United States Army; he was honorably discharged. On September 17, 1983, he married Linda Sue Cottrill at Bethlehem Church of Randolph, NJ. They resided in New Jersey before they journeyed to Cape Cod, MA; they ultimately came to Richfield Springs in 1992. For eleven years he was employed as an electrical engineer with The Fountainhead Group in New York Mills. He retired in 2012. Mr. Tremain had a strong faith in God, his Savior Jesus Christ, and was a member of Richfield Springs Bible Church. He clung to the foundation of Grace and Forgiveness. To those who knew him, he was a meticulous, sincere, soft spoken, and hardworking man. As a youngster from seven years of age he was a worker, starting out selling periodicals. Some of his employers included Bakers Shoes, Bell Labs, The French Company, and Samsung. He had been a roofer as well as a short order cook. Politically, he was part of the Republican Committee in Roxbury, NJ. Don was happiest when he was with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great granddaughter. He will be greatly missed and remembered lovingly. Surviving him are his devoted wife of thirty-three years Linda, two sons: Michael Tremain of Stillwater, NJ and Jason Tremain of Richfield Springs, four daughters: Valerie Knopf and her husband Richard of Long Valley, NJ, Barbara Dodge and her husband David of Norfolk, VA, Jeanine Schmidt of Scotia, and Paula Fulper and her husband Tyler of Andover, NJ, two brothers: Lorin Skip Tremain and his wife Elizabeth Ann Hinzman Tremainof Redford, MI, Bobby Tremain and his wife Trudy Severs Tremain of Milford, NJ as well as thirteen grandchildren, one great granddaughter, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gerry Tremain. Mr. Tremains family will be receiving friends and relatives from 3:00 to 4:00 pm Friday at Richfield Springs Bible Church in Richfield Springs, NY with a funeral service to immediately follow at 4:00 pm in the church. Pastor David Tosi and Pastor Roger Smith will officiate. There will be an additional service held in his memory at Ledgewood Baptist Church in New Jersey; please reach out to a member of his family for the date and time. Interment will be in the Presbyterian Cemetery, Succasunna, NJ, the date is yet to be announced. Rather than flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Masonic Research Laboratory, 1250 Bleecker Street, Utica, NY 13501.
