Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Dora Myrtle Empie age 83 of Main Street passed away peacefully on Monday evening October 29, 2007 in OConnor Hospital, Delhi. She was born on June 16, 1924 in the town of Springfield, daughter of the late Frank and Edith Moyer Bartholomew. A lifelong area resident she was raised in Springfield and graduated from the East Springfield High School. Dora was married to William L. Empie who preceded her in death on August 28, 1986. Mrs. Empie had a strong belief in God and was a thirty-year member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. For the past six years she resided at the Welcome Home in Richfield Springs where she was a member of the Lady Bug Society. Dora will always be remembered as a loving, caring and hopeful person who stayed at home to raise her five children. Cherished are their memories of the warm aromas coming from her kitchen whenever she was cooking and baking or the wonderful times they all had growing up together . In her later years she found great joy when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are two sons and their wives, Richard and Lorraine Empie of Frankfort, Leland and his wife Kim Empie of Cantonment, FL, two daughters, Evelyn Empie of Fort Worth, TX, Linda Merwin and her companion Ivan Rogers Jr. of Jefferson, a brother, Ralph Bartholomew and his wife Janice of Wells, fourteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband William she was predeceased by a son Larry Empie in 1978 and two sisters, Lizzie Rosenboom and Ellen Bartholomew. Funeral service will be on Friday at 11:00 am in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home; 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend William Harkins, Pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs will officiate. Interment will follow in Springfield Center Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the charity of your choice.
