VanHORNESVILLE-Dora Viola Ward age 100 passed away peacefully on Friday evening April 21, 2017 in the Presbyterian Home for Central, New York, New Hartford. She was born on March 9, 1917 in the town of Warren, daughter of the late Lynn and Mabel McRorie Geywits. Dora was raised in Richfield Springs, educated in Richfield Central School and was a graduate of VanHornesville High School. On September 2, 1942 she was united in marriage to Harold J. Ward in Richfield Springs Presbyterian Church. They shared a loving and devoted union of fifty-one years until his passing in 1993. In November of 2008 she moved to Hamilton . Most of her life she was a farm wife working their dairy and chicken farm in the town of Stark. Dora was a life member of the Warren Grange. Mrs. Ward had a strong faith in God and had attended the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. To all who knew her she was a caring, helpful and hardworking lady with a heart of gold. She will be sadly missed.
Surviving her are one daughter, Mabel Bushee and her husband Richard of Waterville, two grandchildren Linda Szewczyk and her husband Joseph of Sauquoit, Richard Bushee and his wife Tricia of Waterville, four great grandchildren,Stephanie and Kevin Szewczyk, Caitlyn Smith and Tori Buschor, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Harold, she was preceded in death by her brother Stewart Geywits.
Funeral service for Mrs. Ward will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 am in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs with the Reverend Doctor Mark Ioset, Pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting officiating. The family will be present in the funeral funeral home to receive relatives and friends from 10:00am until the time of the funeral.
Interment will follow in Mohawk Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the American Cancer Society or the Presbyterian Home for Central New York. Envelopes wil be available at the funeral home.
