Obituary

MOHAWK- Doris E. Frankland, age, 94, formerly of Orchard Street, passed away on Friday morning April 11, 2014. She was born on December 18, 1919 in Newport, daughter of the late Russell and Olive Steuber Thomas. She graduated from Herkimer High School in 1939 and later pursued her education at the Utica School of Commerce, graduating in 1940. In, 1942 she married Robert Mayo in Herkimer. He was killed in action in WW II in 1943. She later married William C. Frankland in Mohawk on October 26, 1946. Before she was married she had been employed as a secretary with Swatling & Peathie Oil Company in Herkimer and later as a secretary in the shipping department at the Remington Rand Company in Ilion and the Martin Fish Reel Company in Mohawk. Mrs. Frankland had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church. Throughout the years she was always active in church groups. Doris will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. As an awesome cook and baker, cherished are the memories of those warm pleasant aromas that came from her kitchen. She will be truly missed. She is survived by two very dear and special daughters, Diane Carol and her husband Arthur Miner of Rome, Cheryl Doris and her husband Stephen Welch of Mohawk, five beloved grandchildren, Christina Diane Beauregard, and her husband Patrick of Altamont, Jeannette Leslie Hernandez and her husband Alberto ofKY, Sharon Elizabeth Davis and her husband Robert of Mohawk, William Frankland Welch of Brooklyn, Elisa Diane Welch of Calicoon, a step-grandson, Aaron Miner of Rome, five great-children, Ethan, Kylie, and Ava Hernandez, Lelaina and Abby Beauregard, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husbands Robert Mayo and William C. Frankland, she was predeceased bya son-in-law Reverend Leslie Strader, two beloved brothers Harold (Ted) Thomas and Charles Thomas and two brother-in-laws Harry Frankland and Robert Frankland. Memorial service for Mrs. Frankland will be on Saturday, April 19th at 1:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. Calling hours will be one hour prior to service (12:00pm). The Reverend Arthur Miner will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Memorial Park in the town of Kirkland. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Herkimer County Humane Society or the Mohawk Reformed Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
