Obituary

HERKIMER Doris J. Getman, age 96, of 104 North Washington Street, passed peacefully away on Thursday October 12, 2017 in Homelife at Folts. She was born on June 16, 1921 in the Town of Manheim a daughter to the late Ambrose and Edna Ransom Harper. Raised and educated in the Manheim area attending Manheim and Wards View Schools and graduating from Mohawk High School. On October 15, 1940 she married Thomas Richard Getman in the North Columbia Church, a blessed union of 69 years until his passing on August 22, 2009. Mrs. Getman was a Library Assistant in Owen D. Young School for many years retiring in 1986.At one time she was the Tax Collector for the Town of Warren. Doris was a devoted member of the Jordanville Federated Church. She held memberships in various organizations, the Jordanville and Warren Granges, Henderson General Herkimer Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, and Arbutus Chapter Chapter 318 Order of Eastern Star which she was a Past District Deputy Grand Matron of the Otsego Schoharie District. She was a friend to many and will never be forgotten. Surviving her are a son Wayne Alan Getman and his wife Sara of Newport, two daughters, Marcia J. Armstrong and her husband Glenn of Jordanville, Mary Beth Homiack and her husband Michael of Broomfield, CO, one brother Roger Harper of Rome, seven grandchildren, Myron Getman, Christopher Getman, George Getman, Matthew Homiack, Damek Homiack, Diane Lauzun, Karen OConnor, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Jean Getman Thompson of Mohawk. Besides her husband Richard and parents she was preceded in death by a brother Stanley Harper and a sister Helen Prosser. A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Getman will take place on Friday November 3rd at 11 AM in the Jordanville Federated Church, Main Street, Jordanville with the Reverend Scott Hocking officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives following the service in the Church Hall. Expressions of sympathy may be made in memory with donations to the Jordanville Federated Church or Jordanville Public Library. Envelopes will be available at the church. Funeral arrangements are with the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs.
