UTICA-Doris O. Hennings age 93 of the Willow Park SNF passed away on Sunday morning June 30, 2013 in Saint Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica. She had the support and comfort of her loving daughter and son-in-law at her side. She was born on June 21, 1920 in Ilion, daughter of the late Alvin C. and Zinia Nichols Smith. A lifelong area resident she was raised and educated in Ilion. In 1943 she was united in marriage with Raymond L. Hennings in the Columbia Center Methodist Church. They shared a devoted union of forty-six years until he died on September 14, 1989. Mrs. Hennings had a strong faith in God and was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. In her leisure time she enjoyed volunteering with the Ilion Elks Lodge, making bed pads for people in need. Doris was also active in and had a leadership role with the 4-H Club in Columbia. Mrs. Hennings will always be remembered as a kind and caring lady. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are one daughter, Kathleen J. Ward and her husband Edward of Sacketts Harbor, three grandchildren, David Ward and his wife Debbie of Lacona, Patrick Ward and his wife Kristin of Ellisburg and Todd Ward and his wife Kerry of Delevan, five great grandchildren, Brittany, Nicholas, Eric, Ryan and Emily Ward, 1 great-great grandchild, Brooklynn, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Raymond she was preceded in death by two brothers, Clinton A. Smith and Robert C. Smith. At Mrs. Hennings request funeral service and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
