Ilion-Doris Marie Matteson age, 76, of 80 East North Street, formerly of Mohawk, passed away on Friday afternoon August 10, 2001 in St. Luke's Memorial Medical Center, New Hartford. She was born on December 17, 1925, in Herkimer, daughter of the late William J. and Mildred Hunt Tanner. A lifelong area resident she was raised and educated in Herkimer. In 1944 she married Sanford W. Matteson in the First United Methodist Church Ilion, a loving union of twenty-nine years until his passing on January 6, 1973. Mrs. Matteson had worked for Duofold in Mohawk and in later years for the Prospect Hotel in Herkimer, retiring in 1985. She had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Mohawk United Methodist Church. She loved to read the bible and watch the Billy Graham Crusades on television. She was a friend to many and will be greatly missed. Surviving her are two sons, William S. Matteson and his companion Bonnie Ferguson of the town of Columbia, Victor D. Matteson of Herkimer, two daughters and their husbands Patricia A. and Thomas Hagadorn of Herkimer, Mary C. and James C. Childs of Mohawk, a brother William and his wife Jeanne Tanner of Syracuse, one brother-in-law Robert Bayer of Mohawk, eleven grandchildren, several great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a cousin David Hunt of Herkimer. Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a sister Marion Tanner Zahniser Bayer, two brothers Douglas and Ernest Tanner. Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 10:00 AM in FENNER FUNERAL HOME INC., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Deborah Wollaber pastor of the Mohawk United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
