EAST HERKIMER-Doris Helen McGuire age 83 of East Street entered into eternal rest on Sunday morning August 31, 2003 in Little Falls Hospital.
She was born on September 3, 1919 in Herkimer daughter of the late L. Russell and Blanche Edwards Freeley. A lifelong East Herkimer resident, she was a graduate of Herkimer High School Class of 1937. An honorably discharged veteran of World War II, she served with the United States Marine Corps and had attained the rank of Corporal.
On October 26, 1946 she married John P. McGuire in the First Baptist Church Herkimer. Theirs was a loving and devoted union of twenty-eight years until his passing in September of 1975. For thirty years Mrs. McGuire worked as a loan officer for the Marine Midland Bank in Herkimer, retiring in 1983.
Doris had a close relationship with God and was a member of the First Baptist Church Herkimer for over fifty years. She was a member of Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post # 25 Mohawk and the East Herkimer Green Lantern Club.
She will always be remembered as loving, caring person who gloried in the presence of her family and especially her three grandchildren.
Surviving are one son, Timothy J. McGuire and his fianc Judith Mowers of Ilion, a daughter, Linda and her husband Martin Dutch Comstock of East Herkimer, three grandchildren; Martin Comstock of Louisville, KY, Timothy McGuire, Joshua McGuire both of Mohawk, a sister-in-law; Grace McGuire of East Herkimer, one nephew Paul McGuire, a cousin Douglas Murphy of Herkimer and a special cousin Dorothy Dorr.
Besides her parents and husband John she was preceded in death by a nephew John Corky McGuire.
Funeral service will be on Thursday at 12:00 noon in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend David Kirkpatrick, Chaplain of the Masonic Home Utica will officiate. Following the service Mrs. McGuire will be laid to rest with husband with her husband in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in the funeral home two hours prior to the funeral service (10:00 am until 12:00 noon). Expressions of sympathy may be made to the First Baptist Church Herkimer. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Valley Health Services Inc. and to the Little Falls Hospital Intensive Care Unit for the care and compassion shown to Doris.
