NEW HARTFORD - Doris Sehring, 94, of Oriskany, passed into God's eternal kingdom on January 22, 2007 with her family by her side.
Doris was born June 15, 1912 in Sidney, NY to Earl and Ethel Graves Case. She graduated from Sidney Central School and New York Hospital School of Nursing. It was at that time she met and married Lawrence Jacobson. A nurse by profession, she worked at New York Hospital, Clifton Fine Hospital in Star Lake, NY, and Folts Home in Herkimer, where she was proud of both her employment and her volunteer activities. With the passing of her first husband, Lawrence Jacobson in 1964, Doris assumed his position as hospital administrator until 1969 when she moved to Mohawk and married George A. Sehring. She was always grateful for the love and companionship she received from George and his family. George and Doris later moved to Oriskany. George passed away in 1999. In her lifetime she had been a member of various churches, lastly the Mohawk Reformed Church.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Karen Jacobson of Oriskany; and in-laws, nephews and nieces of the Jacobson family in Wisconsin. She is also survived by the family of George A. Sehring: George T. and Paula Sehring of Waddington NY, Patricia Sehring of Inlet, Jeffrey and Margaret Sehring of Utica, Nancy Sehring of Eagle Bay, and eight great-grandchildren. Doris knew the special friendship of Rita Lennon, Cecelia Blackmon, Sandie Cooney, neighbors and friends.
The family wishes to thank her friends and the staff of Eastern Star Nursing Home, especially Carey Unit who provided Doris with much care and comfort.
In keeping with Doris' wishes, the Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer, is assisting the family. There will be visitation from 12:00 to 2:00 on Saturday, January 27 at the funeral home, followed by a prayer service at 2:00 with Father Anthony Barratt officiating.
Interment will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the library of N.A. Walbran Elementary School in Oriskany, the Eastern Star Home, or a charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
