LITTLE FALLS - Dorothy Hibbard age 88 formerly of DeLong Road, Richfield Springs passed away peacefully on Sunday morning January 11, 2009 in VanAllen Nursing Home where she has resided for the past eight years.
She was born on September 24, 1920 in Poland, NY, daughter of the late Frank and Mabel Carnwright Pierce. A lifelong area resident, Dorothy was raised in Poland and was a graduate of Poland High School. In 1938 she was united in marriage Milton Cech. Dorothy was active with the Future Farmers of America and was a Counselor for the Poland-Gravesville Chapter. Milton and Dorothy shared a loving union of thirty-three years until his passing on December 11, 1971.
She later married Arliegh Don J. Hibbard on April 3, 1973 in the Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer. A devoted union of twenty-five years, Mr. Hibbard preceded her in death on December 4, 1998.
For five years she worked for the W.T. Grant Co. in Herkimer and for six years with the New York State Thruway Authority, working in the Gift Shop at the Schuyler Rest Stop.
Mrs. Hibbard will always be remembered as a warm, caring and gentle wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.
Surviving are one son Terry and his wife Debbie Cech of Plattsburg, a daughter Norma Jenkins of Waterville, Several grandchildren, many great grandchildren and two nephews. Besides her parents and husbands Milton and Arleigh she was preceded in death by her daughter Margaret A. Clements and a brother, Norman Pierce.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 2:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home; 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. Committal will take place later this spring in Pine Grove Cemetery, Poland. The family will be present in the funeral home on Tuesday to receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the funeral service (1:00 until 2:00 pm.)
