Obituary

FRANKFORT-Dorothy Ann Matis age 71 of South Litchfield Street passed away unexpectedly on Sunday September 11, 2011. She was born on January 21, 1940 in Ilion, daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Janeka Grose. Dorothy was raised in Herkimer and graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1957. Ms. Matis will always be remembered as a loving, caring and hopeful person. Her pristine home and cherished children were foremost in her entire life. To her children, precious are their memories of the warmth and aroma of her cooking and baking as they grew up. To her many friends, she was always there to help them and looked for nothing in return. Her warm smile and friendly manner will be deeply missed. Surviving her are four sons and their wives, Steven and Eleanor Matis of Rhoadesville, VA, Paul III and Alicia Matis of Palatine Bridge, Daniel and Angela Matis of VT, William and Jacqueline Matis of Frankfort, nine grandchildren, Chelsea and Kayla Matis of Rhoadesville, VA, Jesse and Logan Matis of Frankfort, Summer Matis of Newport, Dan Jr. and Matthew Matis of Burlington, VT, Amanda Fuller of Little Falls, Christopher Matis of Enosburg Falls, VT, several great grandchildren, two sisters and their husbands, Shirley and Ralph Reid of Fort Plain, Patricia and Thomas Brake of Pueblo, CO, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Doreen Matis in 1971 and her mother Elizabeth Grose in 2008. Funeral service for Mrs. Matis will be on Thursday at 10:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. The Reverend Ann Zimmerman, pastor of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Johnsville Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday (today) from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
