SALISBURY, NC/HERKIMER-Dorothy Ilene Powell, age 86, formerly of Herkimer, passed away on Wednesday morning July 6, 2011 at Autumn Care in Salisbury. She was born on March 31, 1925 in Amsterdam, daughter of the late Albert and Marie Trautner. Dorothy was raised and educated in Ilion. On October 11, 1957 she was united in marriage with John E. Powell in Herkimer. They shared a loving and devoted union of twenty-three years until his passing on April 20, 1981. A resident of Herkimer since 1956, Mrs. Powell moved to Salisbury, NC in 2005. She was of the Methodist faith Dorothy dedicated her life to her husband and children. To her family, cherished are the memories of the wonderful aromas throughout their home from her cooking and baking. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joy and times that she had spent with them. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Richer of Fl, Tina Stanley and her husband James of Salisbury, NC, four sons, Robert Richer of Herkimer, William Richer and his wife Faye of East Herkimer, Ralph Richer and his wife Carol of Gloversville, Edward Richer and his companion Vicky of Salisbury, NC, two sisters, Phyllis Pacherelli and Dolores Keefe both of FL, thirteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband John she was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Her family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home Inc. 115 Court Street; Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Monday from 3:00 until 5:00 pm. Funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 5:00 pm., with the Reverend Janet Gleason, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery on Tuesday morning at 10:00 am.
