MOHAWK-Dorothy Roskowski, age 70, of McCready Road, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday evening December 3, 2003 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. She had the comfort of her husband Peter, daughter Dorothy and three special friends, Jennifer Shedd, Debbie Dillon and Nancy Schneegas at her bedside.
She was born on May 20, 1933 in Hempstead, Long Island, daughter of the late Thomas F. and Mary Ellen Ritchie Mitchell. Dorothy was raised in Hempstead and was educated in Hempstead public schools. On October 31, 1951 she married Peter P. Roskowski in Tuscaloosa, AL. In 1969 they moved to Mohawk coming from Bayport, Long Island. It was in Mohawk where they owned and operated the R & S Highland Dairy Farm.
Mrs. Roskowski enjoyed working her farm and her home.
Surviving are her husband of fifty-three years Peter, one son Thomas and his wife Debra Roskowski of Avon, a daughter Dorothy M. Roskowski and her partner Joseph Usuga of Mohawk, one sister Robina Klinger of Fort Lauderdale, FL, two grandchildren, Kayleigh and Rachel Roskowski of Avon, several nieces, nephews and cousins including Ann Brown of Blairegowrie, Scotland, Big Jim, Aunt Duddy and little Jimmy of Laurel, LI, special aunt and uncle George and Gladys Ritchie of Aldershot, England, three childhood friends, Mike and Joan Murphy of Bayport, LI. and Mommy Lou Burger of Clearwater, FL. Besides her parents, a brother, Alexander Mitchell preceded Dorothy in death.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Monday at 4:00 pm in the Oakridge Free Methodist Church on West German Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Robert Wells, Pastor will officiate.
The family wishes to particularly thank the Bassett Healthcare Intensive Care Unit, Doctors Kramer and Prim, the nursing staff and respiratory staff for the exceptional care shown to Mrs. Roskowski during her hospital stay.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Herkimer County Humane Society or the Salvation Army.
